Private dermatology in the Greater Washington area.

One physician for all of your skin, medical and cosmetic, followed over years.

Most people who find me have already tried. They saw a dermatologist, the visit ran seven minutes, and they walked out holding a prescription with no real sense of what happens next. Then a separate place for anything cosmetic, and someone else for the spot they wanted looked at, and nobody keeping the whole picture in one head.

I built this so that doesn't happen to you here.

About the practice

Dr. Agnes Chang, MD, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist with twenty years of practice, running a private, physician-led dermatology practice serving the Greater Washington area, including Washington DC, Montgomery County and Northern Virginia. One physician handles both medical and cosmetic care, and follows the same patient's skin over years. The practice is private pay and does not bill insurance, and an itemized superbill is available for the medical portion of a visit.

What private means here

Private pay, which is exactly what buys you one physician across everything, the time your visit actually requires, and someone who follows your skin for years instead of meeting you again from scratch. You will see what a visit costs when you schedule, before you confirm anything, so there is no surprise at the desk. No claim to file and no bill finding you three months later. If you have commercial insurance, I am glad to give you an itemized superbill for the medical part of your visit that you can send to your plan yourself.

Where I see patients

The Greater Washington area, by appointment. Patients come from Washington DC, from Montgomery County, from Bethesda and Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights and Potomac and North Bethesda and Rockville, and from Northern Virginia. By appointment is on purpose, it is how I protect the time every visit deserves.

What the first visit is

We sit down and I ask what brought you in and what you are hoping for, and I listen before I do anything else. Then a careful head-to-toe exam, not a glance. We go through the plan together, start to finish, so there is no confusion when you get home, and before you leave I will ask if there is anything else on your mind, because there usually is.

You get your plan in writing, your own, so the visit stays with you. When something needs following up you will hear from me. And when you come back, we pick up where we left off.

A few honest answers

Is there a dermatologist in the Washington area who doesn't rush you?

Yes. Every visit here gets the time it actually requires. I look at you, I let you finish, and I do a careful head-to-toe exam rather than a glance. We build the plan together, and you leave with it in writing.

What does private pay mean, and do you take insurance?

I do not bill insurance. Private pay is what buys you one physician for all of your skin, the time each visit actually requires, and a relationship that follows you over years. You will see what a visit costs when you schedule, before you confirm anything. If you have commercial insurance I will give you an itemized superbill for the medical part of your visit to send to your plan yourself.

Can one dermatologist handle both medical and cosmetic care?

Here, yes, and it is the point. The physician who checks you for skin cancer is the same one who plans and performs your cosmetic work. Nothing gets handed off to a technician and nothing falls between two offices. One person holds your history, which is how the small things get caught early.

How long is a first dermatology appointment?

The first visit is a full hour. Every visit after that gets the time it actually requires, which is sometimes less and sometimes more. That first hour is for listening before anything else, then a careful head-to-toe examination, then building the plan together so you understand it before you leave.

Where do you see patients?

The Greater Washington area, by appointment. Patients come from Washington DC, Montgomery County, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Potomac, North Bethesda, Rockville and Northern Virginia. By appointment is on purpose, it is how I protect the time every visit deserves.

Are you board-certified?

Yes. Board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, with twenty years of practice. Duke for undergraduate, the University of Illinois College of Medicine for my MD, internship at Northwestern, and dermatology residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center, where I was chief resident.

The waitlist

I am not open yet. When I open scheduling for new patients I will reach out to you directly, and you will be among the first I contact. Until then I will send the occasional note worth reading, nothing more.
